Background
Paraguay’s Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare set out to modernise the hospital information system (HIS) of Itauguá National Hospital, through a FASEP study (a French government fund for feasibility studies). The project brought together the ministry, its Directorate-General for Information and Communication Technology, and the hospital.
Challenge
To co-design a hospital information system that gives every clinical department of the hospital secure, easy-to-run operations, strengthens cooperation with the region’s healthcare facilities, and remains technically and financially balanced.
Our role
On behalf of AP-HP International, providing expert advice to the ministry:
- Assessment of the existing HIS: local environment, infrastructure, critical applications, data flows and maturity of the IT organisation
- Feasibility study and a step-by-step plan to modernise and rehabilitate the HIS, towards a digital hospital
- HIS strategy paper: technical direction, budget framework, project portfolio and outline schedule
- Preparing implementation: technical consistency framework, specifications and tenders
Results
The FASEP deliverables were handed over to the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare, which now leads the next steps of the project.
